A couple of years ago I was out hitting Garage Sales, and came across the oddest sale. Instead of the normal sale items, old china, clothes, etc., this garage was filled to the brim with grocery items. It was bizarre! Toilet paper, canned goods, lotions, condiments, candy......At the time I was confused. Had these people owned a convenience store that had closed.....were they serial shoplifters? Well last night my questions were answered. They were extreme couponers! If you missed the TLC show Extreme Couponing you can catch excerpts on TLC.com, or Jenny posted a link to YouTube in the comment section of yesterdays post. Like many TLC shows, it is like watching a train wreck. You simply can't look away! Now I don't mean to offend anyone, but these people have some serious OCD going on! I want to save money and try to live more frugally, and to that end I will spend a couple of hours a day dedicated to clipping, searching and planning. But my life is so much more than that! Really living life is about balance. Make a list, in order, of the most important things in your life. Then look at where you spend your time and energy. Extreme anything is going to take up such a large amount of time and focus, that you will find other aspects of your life shoved aside.

Have a great day! ~ Marla
When I was the VP of membership for my sorority I had the ladies do a fun activity about "balanching" their daily schedules and lifestyles.
ReplyDeleteStep 1: Make a large circle in the middle of a piece of paper.
Step 2: Using a pencil, split the chart into quarters each quarter represented 42 hours (a total of 168 hours in a week)
Step 3: Calculate how much time they spent in a week
In class (we were all college students)
Working
Internships
Delta Gamma (or sororities) activities
Gym
Church
Eating
FACEBOOK (and other social media)
Hanging out with our significant others
Etc...
The results were mind bottling... FACEBOOK GENERATION...LOL.
Great activity to put your life in perspective in terms of time management and balance.
May I also recommend the book, "Juggling Elephants" a great book (and quick read) about prioritizing and balancing all your "elephants" to get your most important things done...NOW:)
I own it.
Thx so much! Great idea!
